If you don't mind driving a little bit, there has been a Red-headed woodpecker hanging around in Riverside Park, NYC since fall. Check out www.calvorn.com - he's got a shot of the bird on his homepage.

Subject: [CT Birds] Pileated Woodpeckers
Closer to your home in Darien: Pileated Woodpeckers are frequently found in the Fairchild Garden which is part of Greenwich Audubon. It is located off of North Porchuck Road in Greenwich, near the Merritt Parkway, Round Hill Road exit.
Another good site is the Mianus River Park which is in both Greenwich and Stamford,
with 2 entrances: off Cognewaugh Road in Cos Cob, and Merriebrook Road in Stamford.
