Just talked to Julian Hough on the phone. The Smith's Longspur photographed late yesterday at Sherwood I. State Park had not been found by 9 a.m. this morning.
For the record, there are 2 state records: one collected at Stratford on Aug. 29, 1968, and one photographed at Madison on May 2, 1982 (Zeranski & Baptist).
One was present his winter on Long Island. This could be that bird heading north. (Remember the Black-tailed Godwit?)
