[CT Birds] Mansfield area sightings

A group of 7 birders participated in an NOS birding outing Sunday morning between 7:30a and 11:00am in various locations in Mansfield. Highlights are listed below in chronological order.

* UConn Lot W
    Northern Shrike - 1
    Great Blue Heron - 2
    Northern Flicker - 2 males 8 inches apart on a branch "head bobbing" each other for 5 minutes.

* UConn Horsebarn Hill
    American Kestrel - 1 female
     Horned Lark -  80+
    Eastern Meadowlark - 2
     
* UConn Mirror Lake
    American Wigeon - 2
    Common Merganser - 4
    Hooded Merganser - 2
    Ring-necked Duck - 2
    Common Raven - 1

* Mansfield Hollow Boat Launch (mostly frozen)
    Tree Swallow - 20 over the small patches of open water
    Common Merganser - 2
    Ring-necked Duck - 2

* Willimantic Water Works (about 2/3 frozen)
    Common Goldeneye - 3
    Common Merganser - 4
    Eastern Phoebe - 1
    Red-breasted Nuthatch - 1 heard

* Pleasant Valley Rd.
    American Black Duck - 2
    Tree Swallow - 4
    Wild Turkey - 2

* Stearn's Farm
    Common Raven - 2
    Black Vulture - 7 (probably a new high for a single sighting in this area)    
    American Pipit - 4

Killdeer (30+) and Red-tailed Hawks (~6) were found in a number of locations.
