From: Paul Carrier:

Here in northwest CT, at Nepaug Reservoir and State forest, the Whip-poor-will nests locally, with
numbers fluctuating from year to year. The best time to listen to them calling is from early June
into July, sundown till total darkness. Then they seem to put their time more into feeding
throughout the night.
This area is mostly mixed older growth forest with a predominance of Pine and Hemlock in most
areas. Thankfully, this area is protected, being a State forest and a restricted access
reservoir. However;...
It's perimeter is quickly becoming developed by homes and condos, and the intrusion of the
homeowners roaming dogs, people and especially cats, might surely have a devastating effect on
it's wildlife, especially ground breeding birds and animals.
