11/21 - Bald Eagle (dark immature) flyover (7:20am, flying N to S over Rt 4 and Farmington River, near intersection of Rt 4 and Brickyard Rd).
This was a very, very dark bird with a longish tail for an eagle. I would have expected at least a little lightness underneath for a young Bald Eagle. It's tempting to think "Golden??" after having read so many reports of Golden Eagles in New England this fall. But Bald Eagles are not uncommon around Farmington (I've seen them in many spots up and down the river), so I'll go with what makes sense, not what I wish for. :)
This bird's head was unusual - it was the typical long head and heavy, long bill of an eagle, but the overall head shape seemed somewhat thin and not so chunky, as if the feathers were scanty or perhaps wet.
Any comments or broader perspective to offer?
