Hi All,
I spent the morning with EJ Raynor scouting the territory I am going to hit on my walk for Sunrise Birding on Saturday. There were lots of great birds around with highlights as follows:
Trout Brook Valley, Redding - 2 RED CROSSBILLS on Bradley Rd near the entrance. The birds flushed and were calling as they circled over us in flight and seemed to come down nearby out towards Valley Forge Rd but could not be relocated.
Aspetuck Reservoir, Easton - 1 EURASIAN WIGEON, 2 Northern Shovelers, 11 species of duck total.
Saugatuck Falls, Redding - 1 Pine Siskin, 1 Red-breasted Nuthatch, 2 Fox Sparrows, 2 Brown Creepers
Edward Steichen Reserve, Redding - 6 Purple Finches, 1 Fox Sparrow, 1 Ruby-crowned Kinglet (latish?), 20 Wood Ducks
In general lots of birds around on various stops including lots of mixed flocks that contained many B. Creepers and a few RB Nuts, Purple Finch, Fox Sparrows - The Steichen and Saugatuck areas were loaded with Robins and Cedar Waxwings but we couldn't find anything more exciting amongst them. Add that to the Shrike earlier in the day and it was a pretty great day to be out birding.
