Providing bird feeders and seed to the elderly is a wonderful  gesture. I did 
that for my parents years ago, and also I bought them a  very basic bird 
identification book with large photographs.  It gave them  much pleasure in the 
senior years. A pair of cardinals started coming to  their feeder every night 
just before dusk and they would watch for it and call  me to report.
Each week when I visited them, I brought a small bag of seed  for them.
