At some point, we may all have to re-adjust our thinking about the lateness of Ruby-throated Hummingbirds.? I was quite excited last year when someone told me they had a Ruby-throated Hummingbird in October that lingered until the end of the month.? I went over to check it out thinking Rufous Hummer or better, but sure enough, they were correct in that it was a Ruby-throated.? I'm not quite yet ready to jump on the global warming bandwagon when it comes to hummingbirds, but it will be interesting to see if, over the next few years, we find that an increasing number of Ruby-throated Hummingbirds are arriving earlier and staying later into the year.

I can't speak for Mark but I did not hear of these other hummers that stuck
around for any length of time. We would certainly like the oppurtunity to band
any hummingbird in CT after October 1st.

For those of you who do not know. Mark Szantyr and I have a permit to band
hummingbirds and are eager to do so for any hummingbird currently coming to a
feeder.

Is there contact info for the rubyhtroat? Was that bird definitively identified
as a rubythroat? Thats an interesting bird for late October.

I can also be reached at at 860-276-8433, which is checked for messages much
more frequently than email.
