Hi All,

Just got back from the Wilton portion of the Westport Christmas Bird Count. Sounds like most people on the Westport Count had a terrible day out, if they got out at all. Not so in Wilton - we got out all day and had a really great time! Joe Bear, Patty Scott and I managed to round up a total of 53 birds on the day - sneaking past our old town best by one. Although conditions were bad until about 9:00am it improved fairly rapidly after that without much precipitation or wind to speak of. Highlights were as follows: 1 YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT (at the Christian Science Church on Route 7), 3 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS, 3 COMMON REDPOLLS, 1 CHIPPING SPARROW,? 1 BLACK VULTURE, 2 PURPLE FINCH, 1 EASTERN TOWHEE, 1 BROWN CREEPER. As is always the case for all the more uncommon species that you find there is always a handful of common species that seem to elude you on days like this, but for me that's all part of the fun.

Luke Tiller
