[CT Birds] about Redpolls

Paul/Frank,

Looks like the Redpolls are finally making there way inland in the SW
corner, given some recent reports and this one. I came home Sat
afternoon and heard/saw a flock (40+) of small birds flying towards some
trees in my yard. Some (maybe all?) at least were Redpolls as I heard
the call. They quickly vanished though (mainly Oaks at our house) and
couldn't be relocated. I went into the house and my wife pointed out 1
male Redpoll on the thistle feeder. For the last 3 days there have been
anywhere from 1-3 on the thistle feeders- funny how only 3 peeled off
from the flock.

Hi Paul,
Of the 2 or 3 flocks of redpolls I've seen in CT
recently, all have been feeding on natural food, such
as birch catkins. So in my small sample, I'd say they
are preferring birches or weed seeds to feeders, at
least at this point in the season. But, I'm still
hoping to find one or more at our feeding station.
