Hi CT Birders,
Yesterday I spotted my first redpoll as I approached the feeders to place a ground feeding tray of finch mix out. One bird did not fly away until I was a foot or so from the feede, It was a common redpoll. A life birds for me and a new yard bird. Very easy to pick out with the tiny yellow and very pointed bill, small size and distinctive streaking.
Today I noted two of them.
A lone american tree sparrow was also present along with a flock of 20 or so Cedar waxwings which I happily released two into. Numerous robins were also present along with all the common visitors
The pileated woodpecker released a year ago has been showing up much more often for handouts of insects. He also visits the suet and hulled sunflower feeder. There is still a flicker present along with rthe rest of the common winter woodpeckers coming to feeders.
So happy to get a redpoll!
