>From Frank Mantlik, with Joe Bear this afternoon ( in
snowy beauty).
1/1 Norfolk, Shepard Rd. - at least 53 PINE GROSBEAKS
- maximum count of several flocks in treetops near the
Senior Housing facility entrance road crabapples. We
found our first flock of about 9 further east along
Rt. 44 (I think also in the town of Norfolk).
-Canaan, Rt. 7 - COMMON RAVEN.
-Canaan, Rt 63, along Robbins Swamp (I think) -
dark-morph ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK.
- Canaan, Under Mountain Rd/ Cobble Rd. - 2 NORTHERN
SHRIKES. One was in a tree at the west end of Cobble
Rd. (down from Rt. 63), over the flooded road; the
other was at the intersection of Barnes Rd. Also, 22
Cedar Waxwings.
BEWARE: Cobble Road is blocked off at the east end
(near Under Mountain Rd.), so it's a mistake to drive
through the flooded portion from the west. We didn't
get stuck, but a car with less clearance could.

We also checked a number of feeders in Canaan, Goshen,
and Norfolk, but failed to find any siskins or
redpolls (surprisingly).
