[CT Birds] Screech Owl -PREDATION

This is a most interesting topic. I confess that raptors are my favorite birds (woodpeckers and duck rivaling second place), and I enjoy seeing them in action.

I recall seeing a photo of a Red-Tailed Hawk that had managed to capture a Kestrel. Here's the link:

I am fascinated with the various ways in which birds make their livings, whether it is with specialized seed-cracking bills, serrated bills for catching fish, talons for grasping and dispatching prey, or any of the other wonderful variations. They are all interesting and all beautiful in the efficient elegance that is Nature. Natural predation - predators in their natural habitat, preying on their natural prey - doesn't bother me one little bit. The urge to eat in order to survive is overriding. Especially in this frigid weather. (just refilled the suet feeders, my hands are frozen!)

Better yet, I'm glad when the Cooper's dispatch the Starlings in my yard. Wish the Sharpies would take care of the House Sparrows as efficiently.
