 David:

To give you an idea, the Hartford Christmas Bird Count tallied 845 blue jays.? This compares with 803 last year, and 880 in 2005.? Yes, it does seem like there are more blue jays than usual, but our CBC data does not support this theory.

Subject: [CT Birds] Blue jay numbers up

I have been just amazed at the numbers of blue jays I have been counting here in
Washington, CT so far for the 2007-2008 Feeder Watch season. My average to date
is 7.8 blue birds for the 2007-2008 Feeder watch season. In the prior 10 years
of Feeder Watch the next highest yearly Feeder Watch season average I have had
was 4.9 blue jays. I was curious if other are also seeing a lot blue jays this
year. I assume the high blue jay numbers is tied in with the winter finch
invasion we are having this winter?
