Arrived around 10:30 at Shepard Road, Norfolk, across the street from the driveway to the retirement home, a few minutes before the grosbeaks were frightened off by a passing truck. The flock of 15 or so birds passed overhead heading east with 6 remaining in a tree to the west, and a little while later about 10 birds filtered back in to the still well-laden fruit tree right in front of us. The views were spectacular before the sun faded at noon, and the pro photogs gathered there were very patient with us non-pros angling for good pics.

Many thanks to Ray Harvey and Dori Sosensky for yesterday's warning about the disappearing fruit crop on Shepard Road---that was the thing that finally persuaded me to drive the two hours to Norfolk and I'm so glad I did. Great life bird AND great photos to boot.
