Hi Carole,
Thanks for the tips on the yard cleanup. I have to dedicate an afternoon to
doing that because I have a large area which the birds hang out in my yard.
Putting mulch over the dirty soil, is a good idea.
Since the increase in the number of house finches with the conjunctivitis, I
have been cleaning my feeders more often, but I think I will start doing it
several times a week. This year I have had the highest number of sick house
finches, as well as a sick goldfinch and house sparrows, since I have begun
doing the Cornell survey.
Several years ago, I had caught one of the sick house finches which I
brought to the Ansonia Nature Center. It did recover. But I now keep Meredith
Sampson's and Jayne Amico's phone numbers on me, in case I am able to catch
another finch.
**************Start the year off right. Easy ways to stay in shape.
