My husband agreed to watch the kids Sunday so I had two whole, kid-free, birding hours! Not that my kids haven't been as accomodating as kids are capable of being when they are being dragged around to look at things they generally cannot see. (At what age do kids figure out how to look through binoculars?)
Anyway, I saw Red-Breasted Nuthatches by the West Beach pavilion, 2 Lapland Longspurs mixed in with a flock of Horned Larks on the lawn near the Nature Center, and thanks to Carolyn Cimino, who was incredibly patient and willing to stand in the wind with her scope, I also saw my first Purple Sandpipers. There were also Dunlin and Ruddy Turnstones on the breakwater rocks at Meigs Point.
