1/14 -- Was at the computer this morn reading the latest postings of this
forum when I heard a red-shouldered hawk. My husband and I ran outside and sure
enough found two of them perched in a tree in our neighbor's back yard. They
allowed us some real textbook looks, one was front and center, the other
showed us his back. Then they flew off but one was back again about 10 minutes
ago, this time in a big tree in our front yard not far from my feeders. Maybe
they will take away one of our too many squirrels who eat all my ground seed?
I have consistently seen 2 Coopers hawks (1 adult, 1 imm.) in our area (lower
Niantic River Rd) all winter, so I was very pleasantly surprised to see these
two red-shouldered here this morn.
By the way, we have barely any snow here -just an inch or less.
