1/14 - Old Lyme - 17 Lieutenant River Rd. - YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT continues. Had two very good looks, about 20 minutes apart between 1-1:30 p.m. Hank Golet has been encouraging her to stay on by adding branches of rose hips and berries and the like to the thicket! Thanks, Hank!
Also: At Great Island the mice must be in a permanent "duck position" as at least two Short-eared Owls as well as a Northern Harrier or two patrolled the marsh around 2 p.m. American Tree Sparrows in the parking lot. Two Great Blue Heron swooping around the road to Great Island.
Old Saybrook Ferry Lane Boatyard between the RR and I-95 bridges - 4 Pied-billed Grebes, one adult Bald Eagle.
Hammo at 3:30 p.m. - No Crossbills. Red-breasted Nuthatches in those pines at West Beach. Also a flock of Horned Larks which another birder numbered at 83. At Meigs Point: Sanderlings, Purple Sandpipers, 3 Black-bellied Plovers, many Ruddy Turnstones.
