Just a quick observation on prey and predator.

Last winter, at the local K-mart Mall in Torrington, I observed in the trees in the middle of their big parking lot, a Coopers Hawk sitting in a tree which was also occupied by some crows and many Starlings and Pigeons. In fact, their were several Pigeons just feet away from the hawk, preening, while the hawk was doing the same.

My take on this was - the hawk might have just eaten, and the pigeons saw no present threat at the time.
I also believe, if a bird is healthy and in good condition, most predator attacks are not usually a threat to them. Though being sick, injured or careless is another story.
