On the way up to and back from Dutchess County NY from Darien for the
long weekend I checked out the reported Pine Grosbeak locations. There was
nothing at Kent Falls State Park and the crabapples were abundent but quite large.
Today here were three Pine Grosbeaks (1 male and 2 females) at Shepard Road in
Norfolk. Still some small fruit left. At the industrial park in Winsted two
NY birders said they had seen a flock earlier in the day that a truck flushed
and then they said they later saw four birds come and leave quickly. Lots of
fruit at this location but also lots of human activity. On the way to Norfolk
there was a kettle of 28 Black Vultures over the center of the town of Canaan.
