[CT Birds] strange bird

This morning, around midday in fact, At Hammonasset, near the West Beach parking area, beyond the pines to the left of two buildings among the sand and short grass, my wife and I spotted this bird.  Can anyone help us identify it?http://www.flickr.com/photos/18066532@N02/sets/72157603798045114/
