During the colder months of the year when ice is likely to form on driveways and walks, instead of using sand or chemical ice melter I put down bird seed for traction. It is effective in providing safe walking as well as feeding our feathered friends. By the time the ice has gone the seed has also disappeared. Phil Asprelli
