[CT Birds] Naugatuck Redpolls

Maybe this is a regional thing, because I had the same experience in
Prospect today. Only 3 individuals mixed in with a bunch of goldfinches,
but still a thrilling day when adding to the backyard list.

For whatever it is worth, last year I got a new thistle feeder. When I got
it there were few goldfinches in the yard, and after I put it out, there
were even less. I went through hardly any seed last year. This year I put
it out again and it was going really slow. Yesterday it was down halfway
and I filled it to the top. For whatever reason, the goldfinches came in
droves today, and along with them the 3 redpolls. I guess it was worth
waiting for.

Thanks,
JT

1/27 - Naugatuck, Yard - Approx. 15 Common Redpolls.

First for my yard. I have been reading all of the reports this winter and
wondering why not here? Well, they finally came and in decent numbers. None
of the Hoary variety... I guess that would be pushing it.
