I saw the WESTERN TANAGER(along with several yellow rumped warblers) at
Hammonassett from 11:25AM-11:35AM eating the bittersweet berries in the cedars
near the Tunxis camp area.
I am sure it was there before I arrived because numerous people along the
path had said it had been seen. I wish I was a bird photographer because it
would have been a beautiful photo of the Western Tanager with a bittersweet
berry in its mouth; it's reddish/orange bill and it's bright yellow contrasting
with the bright orange/red of the bittersweet.
I went over to Meig's Point where there were 24 HORNED LARKS and 1
LAPLAND LONGSPUR in with the flock, in the grassy part of the parking lot.
Also a Northern Harrier coasting over the marsh as I was leaving Meig's
Point.
Beautiful birding day :)
