I just wanted to add that I also had a very positive experience with
Swarovski Customer Service. Right before Christmas I was in Jerry
Connelly's shop, and he informed me that there was no longer a huge
waiting list to get the focus adjustment on my binoculars fixed. Not
only was it right before Christmas, it was also right before I was to
leave the country to go on a birding trip where I would need my bins.
Jerry gave me the info I needed and offered to intercede if necessary. I
called on a Tuesday and got my service number, overnighted the bins on
Wednesday, and I had them back on Monday. I thought they had sent me a
new pair as they did not resemble the banged-up version I sent them, but
it was my pair restored to brand new quality. I was very impressed with
the level of service and prompt response, as well as the attention to
detail. I agree with Patrick that it does pay to shop locally when
buying expensive optics as the owner is always willing to help with any
problems that may occur.

Subject: [CT Birds] Shrike and Swarovski Customer Service

After several trips to look for the Northern Shrike at the Southbury
Training School, I finally had a little bit of luck, with a brief
glimpse as it briefly perched up on a bush under the power lines. My
views were only good enough to say 'shrike' though, so I'll have to
assume it was the Northern Shrike that has been in the area.

On another subject, I wanted to give kudos to Swarovski for their great
customer service. A few months ago, one of the mounts where the
binocular straps attach broke off. Jerry Connelly at the Audubon Shop
called and set up my work order and Brian O'Toole at Audubon Greenwich
sent them in for me at the end of December. I just got them back to me
and they look, feel and work like new binoculars! I was only expecting
them to fix the broken part, but it's obvious that they went above and
beyond the call of duty and I wanted to pass along the positive
experience. Maybe it helped that I had two dealers putting in a good
word for me, but having someone to look out for you is another good
reason to buy locally. Thanks to Swarovski and to Jerry at the Audubon
Shop and Brian at Audubon Greenwich for a really refreshing customer
service experience.

>From Patrick Comins:

1/28 - Southbury, Southbury Training School - 1 SHRIKE, ASSUMED TO BE
NORTHERN, since that is what has been seen in the area.

Patrick Comins, Meriden
