[CT Birds] two odd observations

Glenn, any idea what age the gulls were? I have witnessed young birds
collide with objects, the ground, and even people when trying to evade
pursuit. Usually the pursuit is an adult gull but perhaps a Peregrine in
this case (if evading pursuit was the cause). I'm pretty sure there are no
powerlines where the school is but is there some other potential structure
(permanent or temporary) that they may have impacted? If indeed one gull
buried its bill in the ground upon impact then it is likely that the bird
was alive and flying rather than dead and falling.

As for the hornet's nest, it may have been roosting or it may have been
hunting insects.
