Stopped at Batterson Pond in Farmington for a quick look after work today.
Only found a dozen Canada Geese, a few black ducks, some ring-billed gulls,
and a couple ring-necked ducks on the water who all suddenly decided to fly
when I pulled up, the reason being, an adult Bald Eagle flying in to land on
the nearby ice. There was a mostly eaten carcass (perhaps a bird) on the
ice which the eagle began picking over so perhaps the other birds were wise
to heed his presence.
Not too far away from the eagle were 3 ice fishermen. Amazing how well
these birds are adapting and yet still so impressive every time one is
spotted.
