1/29 -- From Phil Asprelli -- Union Square Pk, Manhattan NY

I got on a Metro North train at Union Station in New Haven at 7:51 AM and arrived at Grand Central Station an hour and 20 minutes later. I walked the 20 blocks (about1 mile) down Park Av. south to the park which is only about 3 acres. I proceded to the SW area of the park where the bird was last reported and saw the bird fly in but high in a tree. It flew off after a few minutes. I began to walk around always looking. A local resident with bins on came into the park led me to the corner garden with the bronze statue of Gandhi. The woman proceded to peel a banana and break it into 1" pieces and throw them into the garden. The bird appeared in an instant to devour some of the fruit. At times the bird was only 8' in front of us, almost too close to focus with my bins! At other times it was interacting with a Yellow Bellied Sapsucker at eye level. All this went on for 1 1/2 hours. I met up with my nephew, had a great lunch and headed back to GC Station
very satisfied on all accounts. One of my better experiences of chasing a bird down! If you are inclined to go by all means GO!
