This winter on my way to work I'm always scanning crabapple trees with
fruit (I suspect many of you are doing the same). I watched one
particularly fruit-laden tree in Glastonbury remain untouched this
winter, then suddenly, a few days ago, I noticed it was stripped bare.
Perhaps some of the birds from farther north are working their way
farther south and to lower elevations. Then today going to work I saw a
flock of small birds silhouetted on some birch trees that are planted
around the Pratt & Whitney Customer Training Center (East Hartford). Of
course I turned around, and found 18 Com. Redpolls feeding on catkins.
