I have several as well:
SWAINSON's WARBLER
Long-eared Owl
Great Gray Owl
Hudsonian Godwit
White-headed Woodpecker
All of these I have searched for in appropriate habitat in various parts of the US in season. Some go back 12 years or more since I've been actively looking. Swainson's Warbler has been the most blatently "missed" bird, as I've been at the right place in the right season, just at the wrong time of day or in the wrong weather.
For the longest time, I also couldn't find a Summer Tanager, until I finally got a beautiful male on Maryland's eastern shore in 2007.

Birding has a strong element of obsession to it. Your last life bird is now a war story that is recounted with other birders. What is your next life bird, the one you obsess? The one that has escaped all of your efforts so far. The one that has you duped. It could be a bird within the state or a bird that you traveled to see and got skunked.
Virginia Rail
Three Toed Woodpecker
Redhead Duck
Orange Crowned Warbler
