[CT Birds] Scott's Oriole

Although I sign myself from "Port Chester, New York", I live half the
time in Manhattan, in fact on 15th Street, in fact two blocks from where
the Oriole is currently visiting. He is a great addition to the
neighborhood, and I understand the warmth of feeling he provokes (what
will happen to him?--we wish him well...). What I like about the bird
is that although he is obviously a tourist, he acts with the panache and
elegance of a native.

That corner (sw corner of the park) can have its surprises. This past
summer I was on a bird/butterfly tour in Hungary, and the other
participants were all British. They urgently wanted to see a Camberwell
Beauty, a rare butterfly in England. We call it a Mourning Cloak. I
mentioned that in early spring I had seen one in my very "back
yard"--i.e. the same corner that the oriole is visiting. Our "yard"
lists in NYC may be limited, but they have their excitement...

Subject: [CT Birds] Your next life bird

Only the Lord knows what my next life bird will be! I went to North
Canaan this morning hoping today would be the day, but maybe tomorrow.
But that's okay because I'm still basking in the glow of the Scott's
Oreole! I echo Carolyn's sentiments, "One of my best birding
experiences!" So if it's a while before my next "lifer", so be it. If
you haven't seen this bird, don't miss it! Let it be your next "lifer!"
