1/31, Killingworth:
A sharp-shinned hawk perched in a small tree outside the children's room at the Killingworth Library. This is the first winter at the library that I've been feeding the birds (we have a tube feeder hanging from the large maple at the center of our reading garden). And as usually happens, feed the little birds and you'll inevitably feed the larger ones! I lost sight of the hawk when it flew into some shrubs along the edge of the building.
I was such a typical birder: in the middle of a normal conversation with a patron I suddenly go "A hawk! A sharp-shinned hawk! See? See?? See???" Well, I think they're used to my antics.
