[CT Birds] Half Hardy Birds and Rusty Blackbirds

Luke I agree this has been a decent year for half-hardies. What I have been
noticing is the number of Sharp-shinned Hawks and Cooper's Hawks that are
around (and of course that has something to do with the amount of prey
available). I am seeing accipiters daily with multiples on some days and I
have only been able to bird one half day in January.

As for the comment about the big January oil company connection, when I
used to be a lister I did a big year in CT during which I drove over 3,000
miles inside CT during January. Of course that was before the bird siting
info superhighway of the internet was anything like what it is now and you
had to find nearly all your birds! But it wasn't just big oil that loved
me, Dunkin Donuts was pretty happy with me too.
