Rick Macsuga and I looked through a flock of about 1500 blackbirds (95%
Grackles and a few Red-winged and Starlings) from 1:30-3:30 on Vibert Road in
South Windsor, but no luck finding the female Yellow-headed. The flock was
continuously moving from 1/2 mile north of Vibert to a half a mile south, and only
momentarily went down into a corn field, where it was easier to see the details
(one grackle had white tail feathers) of individual birds within the flock. Trying to
pick out the Yellow-headed while they were up in the trees was unsuccessful.
There was a Merlin and a Brown Creeper in the area.
A funny thing happened when we were there - a cadillac escalade got stuck in
the mud on the dirt road that runs parallel to the River. Before they got stuck,
they passed us and asked if they were bothering us, and we said, "No," and Rick
said, "But we won't help you out when you get stuck." And we didn't :-)
