I too, would like to thank Steve for letting us know about the Red-headed
Woodpecker. We were there this afternoon and although it took some time
(approx. 40 mins), he suddenly appeared in a tree that was right in front of
me. Couldn't miss him at all. We watched him for a while and observed him
take something from the ground (I believe it was a sunflower seed) and place
it inside the top of a broken tree. It also looked like he covered it.
Great fun to watch!
While waiting for the Red-headed WP to appear, we enjoyed ourselves while
watching all your yard birds. Nice, quiet place you've got over there with
lots of good feeder birds. Although we didn't spot a Brown Creeper like
Bill did, we did see two Red-breasted Nuthatches while checking out the
other birds.
Again, many thanks,
Pam & Skip Holden
