[CT Birds] Hammo, 2-7-08

10:00 - 10:30 AM several Horned Grebes off West Beach in front  of the trees 
the  Crossbills had been using.  They were  scattered over a wide area, some 
far out, but a few swam between the swimming  buoys and the beach.  Also Common 
Loons, Red-breasted Mergansers, and Surf  Scoters. 
11:00 AM - 12:30 PM  jetty at high tide.  Sanderling,  Dunlin, Ruddy 
Turnstones, and Black-bellied Plovers.  Didn't see any Purple  Sandpipers.  
1:00 PM - 2:30 PM  campground, Tunxis etc.  I spotted  the Orange-crowned 
Warbler within 5 minutes and all the usual suspects - Pine  Warblers, 
Yellow-rumps, Cedar Waxwings, etc,  But i saw no sign of the  Western Tanager.  I wonder 
when it was last sighted.  Today was the  first day ever that I saw no other  
birders at Hammo - not 1 person with  binoculars.  Everyone hibernating?
