10:00 - 10:30 AM several Horned Grebes off West Beach in front of the trees
the Crossbills had been using. They were scattered over a wide area, some
far out, but a few swam between the swimming buoys and the beach. Also Common
Loons, Red-breasted Mergansers, and Surf Scoters.
11:00 AM - 12:30 PM jetty at high tide. Sanderling, Dunlin, Ruddy
Turnstones, and Black-bellied Plovers. Didn't see any Purple Sandpipers.
1:00 PM - 2:30 PM campground, Tunxis etc. I spotted the Orange-crowned
Warbler within 5 minutes and all the usual suspects - Pine Warblers,
Yellow-rumps, Cedar Waxwings, etc, But i saw no sign of the Western Tanager. I wonder
when it was last sighted. Today was the first day ever that I saw no other
birders at Hammo - not 1 person with binoculars. Everyone hibernating?
