Dear Birders:
Audubon Connecticut is seeking a qualified individual to oversee Connecticut's Important Bird Areas Program.
The Important Bird Areas (IBA) Program Coordinator will oversee the continued development of the CT IBA Program and assist in efforts to develop partnerships with agencies and other organizations to implement a site-based bird conservation strategy for each IBA. This is an integral part of the organization's mission to conserve and restore natural ecosystems, focusing on birds, other wildlife, and their habitats, for the benefit of humanity and the earth's biological diversity. The Position reports to Audubon Connecticut's Director of Bird Conservation.
Qualifications: B.S. degree is required, M.S. preferred, in conservation biology, wildlife biology, ornithology, natural resources, or equivalent. Minimum two to three years professional experience and expertise in bird identification and biological principles preferred. Keen personal interest in bird conservation, experience in avian monitoring and inventory methodologies desired. Excellent public speaking and writing skills, familiarity with a variety of software programs, ability to organize and manage complex projects with a variety of partners, and a willingness to travel. Fundraising experience and knowledge of Connecticut habitats and priorities are a plus.
Equipment: Standard office equipment (i.e., phone, fax, copier, MS Windows operating system computer, etc.). Familiarity if not expertise with Microsoft Software products, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Access and ESRI software, including ArcGIS 9.x. Familiarity with statistics and statistical software is desired.
