Apologies for not updating this sooner but it has been a very busy week for
me. I've only managed one half day of birding so far this year, it's amazing
I can still spell "birding." Well the January lists have been tallied and 4
species were added through revelation of the January lists (I knew there had
to be a House Wren somewhere in CT). They were Golden Eagle, Lesser
Yellowlegs, Western Sandpiper (remarkable), and of course House Wren. A most
remarkable job for January in CT, congrats to Mardi Dickinson. Shortly after
that a Sandhill Crane and Barrow's Goldeneye were reported. So the adjusted
lists to date are as follows:

172 species reported for the month of January 2008.

176 species reported in CT to date for 2008.

Well Red-shouldered Hawks and Red-winged Blackbirds are staking out their
territories, the Peregrines at Millstone Station were very active and vocal
today (thanks for that info goes to Joe Lanier), and the very first signs of
the turning of the season are upon us. Though we do still have a ways to go.

Some of the species currently possible in CT but not yet reported include:
Tundra Swan, Blue-winged Teal, American Woodcock (reported in Mass
recently), Black-headed Gull, Black-legged Kittiwake, Thick-billed Murre,
Snowy Owl, Common Yellowthroat, Sharp-tailed Sparrows, Seaside Sparrow, and
Dickcissel. Any species in a sensitive location, such as the Rufous
Hummingbird that is listed below, can be reported to me directly.

As always, Good Birding!

Dave
