CT Birders,
Thank you to Len Kendall for great directions to the Apple Barn off of Old
Farm Rd. Cheryl & I arrived just before 8 and immediately had the Shrike
perched up, high in a distant tree and to the right of the pump house. The
Shrike was scanning the field continuously, then about 8:25 or so it flew
towards the pines and multi flora rose bushes. We couldn’t relocate the bird
after that.
It appeared that this bird has a hint of brown on the head area but is very
close to be adult plumage. We then went to Great Pond area and walked in
towards the pond, it was very quite and the snow started to fall as we
looked out over the pond. The usuals were around, chickadees &
White-throated Sparrows and a couple of WB Nuthatches.
All in all a nice couple of hours in a pleasant area!
