Reports are trickling in for the first day of the GBBC. I'll try to update at least daily with highlights through the weekend. You can view the current results of the Great Backyard Bird Count for yourselves in nearly real time at the Birdsource website:

We're having problems with the review tools, so we're not able to go in and manually flag reports that we might want additional information on or even try to figure out who submitted them. Normally I like to keep up with this as reports are submitted, but for now there is the probability that sightings given on this page may be sent into review at a later date.

So far we have 72 species reported, but there have been a few species reported today that haven't been submitted, including: Bald Eagle
Western Tanager, Orange-crowned and Pine Warblers, Red Crossbill, Wilson's Snipe and probably others, so that list may grow if people go back and enter their sightings after the fact. There was a Palm Warbler reported yesterday and it would be nice if someone can pick it up for the count over the weekend. I'm also hoping that someone comes up with Pine Grosbeak and/or Evening Grosbeak.

So far the highlight bird is Steve's Red-headed Woodpecker.

There is a report of Northern Gannets and Snow Geese in Stamford, but I can't tell who submitted them or if I need to get additional info.

The large #'s of Fox Sparrows from one location will undoubtedly need to be checked out once the technical difficulties are resolved.
