I took a ride up Route 20 in Hartland this morning looking for possibly a Ruffed Grouse (the lazy way) feeding along side the road (never found one). I got to the northern end of Barkhamsted Reservoir and located 2 female PINE GROSBEAK teed up on the top of a Fir Tree. I also had a few PILEATED WOODPECKERS and COMMON RAVEN in that area. I then took a short ride down South Road (Rt 179) and found two thistle feeders with about 100 COMMON REDPOLL on them (also on ground). This house was on the corner of Sunset and South Road. Nice area and lots of birds. Other birds around the area included RED-SHOULDERED HAWK and more PILEATED WOODPECKERS.
