Yesterday, I walked Witek Park and had a Red-tail Hawk, a Fox Sparrow, and two Brown Creepers. This is the first Fox Sparrow siting I had since I started walking the park in Oct. 2003.
Also, I had a raptor that was flying away from me that I thought could be an Eagle. It had dark underwings with white patches on the wings near the body. I can't recall if the body had any white. It flew off quickly. It definitely wasn't an Osprey (they frequent there), Buteo, or an Accipiter.
Well, today, I happened to look out the front window and saw a dark bird (all dark underwings) with a white head flying away from me. I didn't get a look at the tail. But, I don't know of any bird that has a white head and uniformly dark wings but a Bald Eagle. And, as it happened, a second dark bird followed it.
Osborndale State Park is near the Housatonic River and will occasionally have Eagle sitings. I live about four miles or a ten to fifteen minute drive (depending on traffic) from the park.
