OK here is the result of the voting for the "Best" January bird,
#1 Northern Rough-winged Swallow 42.9%
#2 Hoary Redpoll 25%
#3 Pine Grosbeak 17.9%
#4 Western Tanager 14.3%
#5 Bohemian Waxwing 0%
#5 Rufous Hummingbird 0%
So the winner is Northern Rough-winged Swallow*. The reason given by all the
swallow supporters was the remarkable presence of these birds in CT during
the winter. I have to admit I am a bit surprised the Western Tanager didn't
do better. Bohemians and Rufous Hummingbird received no votes. The
Hummingbird was so crushed at the lack of props it chose to leave the state.
Thanks to all who voted.
Dave
*Presumably they were our usual NRWSwallows. If they weren't then they
deserved the win even more! And for you math majors out there (and I know
you checked) there was rounding hence the total is slightly off 100%
