[CT Birds] Busy feeders!

There are EIGHT downy woodpeckers feeding from my three suet feeders! That's a yard record. I wrote earlier that a junco was also eating suet; now three juncos are in line -- guess they learn from each other. The seed feeders are full, so it seems that they are eating suet by choice.

I saw about 200 red-winged blackbirds in the Farmington Meadows yesterday. Also had a chance to look at 2 Common Mergansers sleeping, at close range - not rare, but very very beautiful. 

Whoever says that black and white are not "colors" has not looked carefully at woodpeckers and waterfowl, many of whom have brilliant black and white plumage.
