That is fascinating...I can identify some individual downies but not all of them. In fact, my daughter and I were just looking at 3 females that were at the feeders together, noting their differences, especially on the overall proportion of white and black plumage. Some birds are noticeably whiter, some blacker. There were 8 here at the same time earlier, so I can imagine that yes, there must be many others in the neighborhood.
