Johnathan Maslow has died at the age of 59.

He was the author of that downer about the Quetzal and the
squalor of Guatemala ("Bird of Life, Bird of Death"), as well as
"The Owl Papers." I read both books almost a couple decades
ago (back when I was a birder!) and both are excellent.
I really recommend the latter. Connecticut owls and owlers
(Michael Harwood, Noble Proctor) are well represented. I
particularly enjoyed the opening chapter on the Bronx. One
of my most memorable owling trips was to Pelham Park with
New York's John Caspers and New Haven area owl wizard
Ed Shove.
