Perhaps if Scott had put the subject of his post something like "regular customers and no rare birds" I would not have reacted as upset as I was when I saw his "Quantify and Quality" post. I think the nature of any hobby is to concentrate on the rare, but when one dismisses the majority of birds as just "quantity" versus the "quality" rare birds one is missing the point of observing nature. I remember the days when I would chase after the "rare" bird and be very disappointed when the "rare" bird was not there. I am still disappointed when a bird I would like to see is not where it was reported but now I appreciate the birds that are there and say well maybe another day the rare bird might be around. I frankly find watching bird behavior or observing things like hawk migration much more interesting then just "checking" them off on a list.
