[CT Birds] Hammo 2/25/08

9:00 am west end parking lot,  2 Red Crossbills in the  very last pine.   
Tried twice to relocate later with no luck.   Off the beach, 4 Horned Grebes.
11:00 am - 1:30 pm  campground area.  Because of a 2"  snow cover the birds 
can only feed in the bare areas under the cedars.   There was a flock of 
sparrows, etc, east of the main entrance road.  Took a  while but I found a small 
flock of juncos (seemed to be less than there has  been)  but with nothing else 
associated with them.  I finally found 1  Pine Warbler  but I don't think he 
had been with them all the time.   No sign of the OC Warbler or the Tanager.  
There was also a flock of about 30 White-throated  Sparrows.  There were 4 
Fox Sparrows mixed in with them - most I've seen  there this season.  Also some 
Cardinals and the partially white Robin (who  does not seem to be doing too 
well), Song Sparrows  and a Flicker.  I  only saw 1 other Robin the entire day.  
Approx. 20 cedar Waxwings.  There were 5 Monk Parakeets in  a tree near the 
parking lot next to a large nest.  
I noticed that there were also White-throated and Song Sparrows  in other 
areas of the campground today, along with a few Juncos, etc., and I  would say 
there were more overall than there have been.  
Meigs Point Moraine Trail  1:30 - 2:30 pm.  Approx 6  six Surf Scoters and 4 
Red-breasted Mergansers.  1 Common Loon.    No shore birds that I could find.
