9:00 am west end parking lot, 2 Red Crossbills in the very last pine.
Tried twice to relocate later with no luck. Off the beach, 4 Horned Grebes.
11:00 am - 1:30 pm campground area. Because of a 2" snow cover the birds
can only feed in the bare areas under the cedars. There was a flock of
sparrows, etc, east of the main entrance road. Took a while but I found a small
flock of juncos (seemed to be less than there has been) but with nothing else
associated with them. I finally found 1 Pine Warbler but I don't think he
had been with them all the time. No sign of the OC Warbler or the Tanager.
There was also a flock of about 30 White-throated Sparrows. There were 4
Fox Sparrows mixed in with them - most I've seen there this season. Also some
Cardinals and the partially white Robin (who does not seem to be doing too
well), Song Sparrows and a Flicker. I only saw 1 other Robin the entire day.
Approx. 20 cedar Waxwings. There were 5 Monk Parakeets in a tree near the
parking lot next to a large nest.
I noticed that there were also White-throated and Song Sparrows in other
areas of the campground today, along with a few Juncos, etc., and I would say
there were more overall than there have been.
Meigs Point Moraine Trail 1:30 - 2:30 pm. Approx 6 six Surf Scoters and 4
Red-breasted Mergansers. 1 Common Loon. No shore birds that I could find.
