Hi, Bev (et al)! I've seen Carolinas enjoying our suet as well. They avoid the hanging cages, but they certainly enjoy a taste from the pole-mounted suet basket. And they're quite determined, too - standing on the top of the squirrel baffle and streeetching way up on their toes to get a bill-full. This winter, I put a mealy-worm cup (on a stand) in the feeder area and kept it stocked with mealies, nut mix, and suet nuggets. The top feeders from that are titmice, nuthatches, and Carolina wren, who then sequesters itself behind the outdoor AC unit so it can eat in peace. I've also seen red-bellied woodpecker and flicker taking a taste (and don't get me started on the blue jays...)

>From Bev Propen 2/29 Orange In the flock of 3-5 white throated sparrows which have been frequenting my yard all winter, I have noticed two of them are of the "tan stripe" variation. (as seen on page 100 of Birds of Connecticut-field guide). This makes the markings of the "white stripe" white throated sparrows seem so brilliant and bright in contrast. Regarding my Carolina wren which has been in my yard all winter, I have seen it on my suet feeder on occasion, but didn't know that is anything unusual. **************It's Tax Time!
